Consolidation of flaking enamel, loss compensation and retouching

Condition

Flaking enamel, running cracks and extensive losses exposing the copper, with discoloured earlier restoration.

Treatment

  1. 01Surface and earlier restoration cleaned.
  2. 02Exposed metal cleaned with industrial methylated spirits.
  3. 03Flaking enamel and cracks consolidated.
  4. 04Losses and missing areas filled.
  5. 05Fills retouched to match the painted enamel.

Outcome

The enamel is stabilised and the painted surface visually reintegrated.
